    In my View: Family medicine, PHC and UHC
    Jan de Maeseneer, Emeritus professor Family Medicine and Primary Health Care, Department of Public Health and Primary Care, Ghent University (Belgium), will be a familiar name to many of you. He has been a staunch advocate for family medicine for many years and continues his interest despite his so-called ‘retirement’! In this month’s WONCA News our President, Dr Donald Li, has invited Jan to contribute his view about issues of note within primary care and family medicine.

     

    Featured Doctor: Professor Les Toop (New Zealand)
    Professor Les Toop is Chair of the Scientific Committee for the WONCA APR conference in Auckland in April 2020. Les trained in the United Kingdom (Bristol) and first came to New Zealand in 1978 as a final year medical student. For the last 32 years he has worked part-time as a GP at Ferry Road Medical Centre in Christchurch where he also a partner. He has also spent a similar amount of time as an academic at the University of Otago where until recently he was Head of the Department of General Practice. Free of administration he continues to be involved in both research, undergraduate, continuing education and in advocacy.

    And a reminder about the 2020 WONCA Asia Pacific Region conference planned for Auckland, New Zealand, from 23rd to 26th April 2020. The theme of the conference is “Family Medicine leading the way towards an advanced world of equity, quality and compassion”. Deadline for abstract submission is 31st October, whilst deadline for Early Bird registration is 20th December.
